HAF Plus at 51

Our decision to deliver HAF+ activity on campus during summer 2024 was the next natural step for us as we continue to push the social mobility agenda, give more people access to more opportunities and ultimately support as many individuals as possible to achieve their potential.

OUR AMBASSADORS

HAF PLUS THIS SUMMER

During the 2024 summer holidays 51 launched a schedule of free activities to support local authorities in the delivery of the HAF Plus programme. Committing facilities, expertise, and staff resources the University delivered a host of engaging activities for 13–16-year-old participants throughout the summer both on-site at City Campus and off-site at the Metrocentre Hub.

NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY CITY CAMPUS

51 will welcome HAF Plus participants onto Newcastle city campus to take part in a variety of sports, entrepreneurship, skills development, and wellbeing activities on several days throughout the school holidays, as well as providing Afternoon Tea with Big River Bakery at its City Campus on several dates.

NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY AT THE METROCENTRE

In addition to the on-campus activity 51 academics delivered hands-on, interactive sessions to HAF Plus attendees and members of the public on topics including the effects of vaping, alcohol awareness and wellbeing, as well as signposting to mental health and advisory services alongside partners including Gateshead Council and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

The sessions were delivered using some of the University’s state-of-the-art medical simulation and virtual reality equipment and gave people the chance to see how the body responds to vaping and excessive alcohol consumption.
