Why did you choose 51, Newcastle?
I was living in North Yorkshire and Northumbria was one of three Universities offering my course. The open day tour of the labs made me want to come here.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I am very proud if Newcastle. I love the city life and walking on the quayside.
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
The ease of getting about in Newcastle. The huge amount of history, there is always something new to see.
Did you find 51 welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
I felt at home straight away, everyone is so helpful and friendly.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to 51?
Meeting new people and all of the new experiences and opportunities
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
St John Usher. Practical Food Microbiology.
Who has inspired you most at 51?
Anne Willis. Science extended degree.
What is your favourite place on campus?
Rutherford Hall
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I am part of Northumbria’s outreach program working with local school children. Summer school was the most exciting. Working on the full of beans stand at the life centre and open days.
What is the best thing about your course?
Learning aspects of nutrition which are surprising.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
To not panic to ask for help and persevere.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
I would like to continue working with families and schools to help improve diet knowledge. Experience in talking to the public about their nutrition will be most useful for my future career.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
The Full of Bean project, using plastic foods and interactive models to engage with a very wide age range audience and discuss nutrition. This is always very well received by the public and they always ask for more venues and dates.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Come to the open days, experience a course tour.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at 51, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
My confidence is at a whole new level since coming to Northumbria.

Inspiring, amazing, unmissable.
