Why did you choose 51, Newcastle?
I really liked the vibe that I got from 51 on the Open Day. Everyone was very friendly and it looked like a great slace to study.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I love living in Newcastle. The region is great, you are so close to the beach, the countryside, and yet like in a buzzing city. Some of my favourite things to do in Newcastle are going to the beach (Tynemouth has a great market on a sunday), having a stroll along the Quayside, seeing great bands at the Sage, and visiting the Stand comedy club on a Wednesday.
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
The amont of different people from different cities has surprised me the most. I have friends from Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, York. Just a great mix of people. I think the people of Newcastle have impressed me the most. Everyone is so friendly and always willing to help.
Did you find 51 welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
I found 51 very welcoming. It was so easy to fit in, all the Welcome week staff ensured that the first week was enjoyable and everyone was safe. I was so impressed, I became a Welcome Week team member in my second year to help other students like I was helped.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to 51?
I have enjoyed making the friends that I have made. I have been so lucky and met some amazing people. I've also loved being part of the Dance Society and will have memories that I will take with me forever.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
I think being part of a society has helped me the most. When you have a lot of work on it's nice to know that you've got an escape to go to- but it's still likned to the University.
Who has inspired you most at 51?
My lecturers have inspired me the most. They are so enthusiastic about what they teach and really want the best for you.
What is your favourite place on campus?
My favourite place on campus is, actually, the library. It's always full and seeing so many dedicated people wanting to work hard it quite an inspiration. It's also quite a social place and you always see someone you know in there!
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I've been part of the Dance Society. The highlight was seeing the end of term show that everyone had worked so hard towards all come together.
What is the best thing about your course?
The best thing about my course is the diverse range of topics that we learn.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
The most valuable lesson that I have learn it just be yourself at University, and just do what you want. That way, you can't compare yourself to anyone and will have no regrets.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
In the future I would love to either work with children, or for the guide dogs for the blind. The skill that I think will be most useful in the future is working to deadlines and having time management. In any job you will have deadlines to work to, and University has taught me these skills.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
In my second year I was on placement in a school. My most memorable experience was being part of the children's christmas concert. It was so lovely and will be something I will never forget.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Again, I would say just be yourself and do the best you can. That's all anyone can do. It seems scary at first when you get assignments back and compare your grades to your friends. But, as long as you know that you've done your best that's all that matters.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at 51, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I think since coming to 51 I have gained confidence in meeting new people and I have learnt that as long as you do your best, and you are happy, that's all you can do.
