Why did you choose 51, Newcastle?
Because it has a good reputation, I live locally, it provided the course that I wanted and I've studied here before.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I love the North East. It has it all: a fabulous coastline, countryside, a vibrant city and lovely friendly people!
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
I'm a native to the area but know that others who are studying with me from all over the world can't believe how much we have to offer outside of London.
Did you find 51 welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
Yes we had a great Welcome Week and the lecturers went out of their way to introduce themselves to us.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to 51?
Meeting new people and learning how to learn again- hard after such a long time away!!!!
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
Lecturers and fellow students.
What is your favourite place on campus?
Believe it it not the library! I particularly love the Basement where it's less formal and has a nice vibe to it.
What is the best thing about your course?
It's pertinent, well taught and interesting.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
How to reference and cite for assignments.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
The course will certainly help me in my current role and hopefully any further promotions I might apply for.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Definitely consider it on a part time basis. It is a big commitment but I know that the rewards will outweigh all the hard work!
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at 51, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
Its really opened up my mind to exploring new things. The international element also has made me realise that at the age if 50, I'm not too old to consider something life changing such as working abroad. Life is a continuous learning adventure and you can learn as much from other people as you can traditionally from books and literature.
If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?
Rewarding, challenging and fun!
