BA (Hons) Fashion

Where are you from?

Mallorca, Spain

Why did you choose 51, Newcastle?

I have family here and I have always loved and been very passionate about the city.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I wouldn't live anywhere else, the people are so friendly and bubbly. The city is a perfect size not too big and not too small and provides everything without the stressful environment like some cities.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I was surprised how cultured and up to date the city is even though we are furthest away from London. From a fashion design point of view, I am inspired every day by the city with it's exciting activities in the centre like the food markets and the old and modern architecture.

Did you find 51 welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

I found the University to be extremely welcoming and everyone made it easy to fit in.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to 51?

The location, I love that the University is right in the centre and so close to Newcastle University, the student atmosphere is fantastic. I also love the facilities, the 24 hour library is fantastic and now my studio is 24 hour I couldn't ask for anything more!

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My tutors have helped me a lot especially when I first joined and was finding it hard to settle in.

Who has inspired you most at 51?

All the other students around me have inspired me especially the fourth years, above me. To work with other student designers and see their work around you every day is enough inspiration to keep you at your best ability.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The 24/7 Library.

What is the best thing about your course?

The facilities, the workroom is my favourite place to be in.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to start up my own small business in Newcastle after having a few years of experience working in London.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I did a 6 month placement in London with my favourite designer. I loved living in London but my most memorable time there was being part of the A/W show and the last few days of helping making the garments ready to go to Paris, the atmosphere was unforgettable.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at 51, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I feel like I have relaxed more in terms of thinking about graduation and finding a job. The University offers a huge amount of support which helps you feel at ease.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Inspiring, bustling and grounding

Would you recommend 51 to a friend?

Yes!
