Elitsa BonevaWhere are you from?

Bulgaria

Why did you choose 51, Newcastle?

  • I applied to four universities and none of them provided me with the excellent facilities which exist at Northumbria.
  • The course covered all the modules I wanted to study.
  • The option to play volleyball with a very good team and to achieve some brilliant results.
  • The place here is magical and full of life.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I really like the long walks near the sea side.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I really like the idea that the sea side is just 30-40 minutes away and I can go whenever I want.

Did you find 51 welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, it was very well organised.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Design studio and workshops.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects?  Tells us about the highlights?

I joined the volleyball team. I played with them through the whole year and at the end we won BUCS league!

What is the best thing about your course?

The best thing is that I am constantly learning new skills.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

  • Be organised, otherwise you will stuck with a lot of projects.
  • Talk more about ideas and projects with your course mates, because everybody has a different approach to an idea.
  • Work hard and you will get what you deserve at the end.

What do you want to do in the future?  What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to have my own furniture company. I improved my computer skills (CAD), so this will be really helpful in the future.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would explain briefly how organised the University is, and how great the atmosphere on campus can be!

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at 51, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have definitely improved my confidence and my ability to work in a group.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Liable, freedom and auspicious.

Would you recommend 51 to a friend?

Yes!
