Brinkburn Ecology Centre & Meadery

Inspired by the Augustine monks’ self-sustaining farming methods to bring financial self-stability for English Heritage. An apiary and meadery will allow the production of honey, candles and mead made entirely on site. This will also provide visitor classes on beekeeping, mead tasting and candle making. The existing biodiversity will be celebrated, protected, and enhanced. A child engaging ecology exhibition from pollination to bats will make Brinkburn a family day out location. The permeable design allows the new intervention to still showcase the layers of history. The materiality and construction methods were with disassembly and circular economy to reduce waste.
