Dr Roseline Wanjiru

Associate Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

Roseline Wanjiru is Associate Professor (Reader) of International Business and Economic Development at Newcastle Business School. She is an experienced leader who is currently the head of Strategy and International Business within EIS, and previously the Faculty Director of Student Engagement, Director of Education, and Programmes Leader within the Faculty of Business and Law. Roseline is an active member of relevant learned societies, including the Royal Geographical Society, the Academy of International Business and Development Studies association, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to joining 51, Roseline previously worked at University of Leeds, University of Huddersfield.

Outside of academia, Roseline works with local and international development organisations, business associations and policymakers. She is an expert advisor on international trade policy to governments and business organisations. Research projects explore the links between international business and development impacts in society.

Roseline currently serves as an expert advisor to the UK Secretary of State for International Trade and a member of the Export Guarantees Advisory Council (EGAC). This Council advises on the operations of UK Export Finance (UKEF). The Council monitors adherence to UK business principles including environmental, social and human rights impacts. The Council does not advise on official support for individual export projects and instead carries out reviews following UKEF support.

Ongoing research projects investigate foreign direct investment spillovers, development impacts, trade incentives and policy, knowledge transfer; institutional contexts; employment and decent work, and innovation outcomes. Roseline teaches and supervises projects on these themes in International Business and Economics at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
